Multi-Sensory Sessions.

 

These sessions will focus on strategies, tools, and other resources to help educate and guide student with multi-sensory needs.  Sessions will be open to anyone interested in learning to improve students' lives in and out of the classroom.

Research has shown that the use of multimedia in the classroom is beneficial to all students.  However, teachers of the deaf may not use video because it can be difficult to find appropriate educational media with high quality captions.  The Described and Captioned Media Program is a free, federally funded program, which provides accessible educational classroom media. Learn about this free resource and how accessible media can enhance your classroom.

A Collaborative Discussion

A collaborative discussion of the specific needs, responsibilities and frustrations of a precious resource. Working as a team can be a beautiful thing. In this session discover methods for teachers and teaching assistants to work together and keep records to communicate with each other to provide seamless educational provision for students.

Adapting Materials to Fit the Individual Needs of Your Students

There are very simple ways to modify materials to help a student access information more easily. Beginning by looking at the child's individual needs and then making or adapting materials to suit their vision, posturing, and auditory needs. This session will provide many example of inexpensive examples of classroom materials that can easily be made to support your student's learning.

How to organize and manage multiple leveled curricula for several individuals, including record keeping. Planning a great curriculum and implementing IEP goals are important. Having excellent classroom management is vital to effectively implement your great plans. In this session discover my method for managing personnel, students, resources and time.

Many of the assistive technology tools used in the classroom for academic purposes can also be used for life skills at school and at home. Many tools can be used to teach routines, learn new skills, and control environments. This presentation will provide hands-on training on assistive technology tools that can be used across environments, as well as give examples of ways to incorporate the tools in students’ daily lives.

Transition Planning for Students with Sensory and/or Complex Disabilities

Participants will gain knowledge and skills around tools that may be useful in transition planning for youth ages 14 -21+ years of age. Tools discussed include rubrics across age span, person-centered- planning and individual surveys to gather information for productive planning and successful outcomes for students and families.

Finding the key to unlock their world. The use of ASL, assistive technology, behavior management and play to connect with students and help them to express themselves.

CVI: Characteristics, Observations, Guidelines and Educational Considerations

Participants will gain knowledge and skills in the identification and assessment of and intervention strategies for children who have cortical visual impairments. Information regarding causes, characteristics and educational considerations for providing instruction and services for these students and their families will be discussed.

Collaboration Skill: Keys to Successful Teamwork

Participants will gain knowledge and skills in the key elements necessary for being an effective team member and working collaboratively to provide coordinated services for students and their families across academic and community settings. The topics and skills discussed can be applicable to a variety of teams or individuals interested in working in a more collaborative and efficient manner.
