Closed Captioning with Office 365 Mix

Office Mix provides the ability to accept closed captioned files.  These must be created with 3rd party software.  We will be demonstrating SubTitle Edit software that is available as a free download.

Understanding Social Security Work Incentives

Does your student want to work?  Are they graduating and preparing to start work for the first time?  This session will cover all of the SSDI and SSI work incentives that make working while receiving benefits possible.  Discussion about transitioning students from children to adults in the Social Security world will also be covered. 

Intrinsic Hand Skills and Development

Participants will learn where the intrinsic muscles of the hands are located, how they develop, experience hands on exercises to develop these muscles, and how they apply to daily functional skills.

Does Color Effect Children

We will discuss the effects that color can have on children. Whether it is the color of the walls or the foods they eat color can affect children and their abilities and moods. Children learn better when the environment they are in promotes learning. We will help to identify colors and how they can improve a behavior and learning.

Minecraft: What's All the Fuss About?

Minecraft has become a phenomenon.  It can be played as a video game but most of your children and students aren't using it for that purpose.  They are using it to create, to build, to explain and to express themselves.  Come see how this software can be integrated into almost any lesson at any age.  Minecraft can be used to teach everything from counting to physics, to civics to digital citizenship.

Office 365 is continually being upgraded.  In this session we'll discuss the latest improvements including quizzing with Forms, equation solvers and graphers in OneNote and the new Planner for group projects.

Let's Have a Ball!

With a small ball, we can work on coordination, range of motion, balance, and brain activity. It can even help get rid of some of the extra energy children have during rainy days. You can even get some good cardio activities. Get the kids active and have some fun!!! Insights, skills, techniques & ideas: Those in attendance will learn different ways a ball can be used to help promote coordination, range of motion, balance and brain activity. The proper execution of the exercises will be shown. Discussion on how and when to use these activities will help those in attendance to think of creative ways to incorporate them into their everyday routine.

In this session, participants will learn about gamifying their classroom with puzzles and activities that encourage collaboration, problem solving, and critical thinking skills. BreakOUT is based on the popular escape room games and brings student engagement in the classroom to a new and exiting level. After going over the game, it's contents, the website, and various games from the BreakOUT database, participants will play a game of BreakOUT themselves.

Going Paperless with Class Notebook

Class Notebook is a great resource that comes as part of our Office 365 account. It offers a great way organize lesson plans and course content in a digital notebook and is designed to help teachers save time and to be more efficient. Class Notebook enables a teacher quickly set up a personal work space for every student, a content library for handouts, and a collaboration space for lessons and activities, and it is all done digitally.

Harnessing the SMART of your SMARTboard

Don't allow your SMART Board to continue to outsmart you. Learn the basics of using SMART Notebook to maximize usage of this tool, including how to create your own interactive lessons. Attendees are requested to bring a device equipped with the latest version of SMART Notebook to the session.

3D Printing

Schools throughout West Virginia are embracing additive manufacturing (3D printing) as a way of engaging students and enhancing a variety of subjects, from science and math to art and history.  The Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI) has been a leader in introducing the technology to students and teachers.  The session will explore the benefits – and challenges – of using this technology in the classroom and highlight resources available to educators.
